30-60-90 Day Plan

Plan for the first 90 days on the job, separated by category

Relationship Building

30 Days

  • Identify and meet with clergy team. Determine vision, goals, expectations, responsibilities
  • Have 1-on-1 with all synagogue staff
  • Attend Board Meeting
  • Build initial list of 30 key congregants of multiple ages and interests
  • Meet with Board President, VPs 1-on-1

60 Days

  • Identify and meet with at least 3 other Rabbis/Jewish educators in neighborhood
  • Meet with 8 of the key congregants
  • Attend 2 synagogue events
  • Meet with other board members (SA, Ritual, Finance, Education)
  • Attend a budget meeting
  • Attend another Board meeting

90 Days

  • Meet with 8 key congregants
  • Attend community event
  • Identify and meet with at least 3 non-Jewish community leaders
  • Evaluate progress with clergy

 

Worship/pulpit

30 Days

  • Meet with service leading team to determine vision, style. responsibility
  • Attend Shabbat service
  • Attend weekday minyan
  • Participate in 1st service: give dvar or sermon
  • Determine HHD responsibility in coordination with Senior Rabbi

60 Days

  • Lead weekday minyan
  • Take lead on one Shabbat service
  • Write outline of sermon ideas, do at least one draft, review with Senior Rabbi
  • Participate in HHD planning meetings
  • Meet with ritual committee
  • Meet with BM Coordinator and Senior Rabbi: determine my role

90 Days

  • Write final drafts of sermons, finalize and practice, review with Senior Rabbi
  • Get feedback from key congregants on teaching, sermon, voice, etc.
  • Continue to plan HHDs
  • Begin working with BM Coordinator
  • Begin working with Lifecycle events

 

Teaching/Education (if an edu. job)

30 Days

  • Determine with clergy team what I want to teach to available ages
  • Determine what to teach (speak with different demographics to identify interests)
  • Meet with Education Committee
  • Begin to plan lessons/classes

60 Days

  • Continue planning lessons
  • Set up and execute meetings with key groups: teachers, students, teaching assistants, parents
  • Begin working on HHD Children’s programming
  • Plan 1st day of RS with clergy

90 Days

  • Work on HHD Children’s programming
  • Execute first day of RS

 

Personal Growth

30 Days

  • Meet with Senior Rabbi to set up mentoring and set goals
    • Set 2 preliminary personal goals
    • Set 2 preliminary professional goals, with at least 1 long-term project
  • Research other sacred places in the city 
  • Research the community and types of cultures

60 Days

  • Meet with at least 2 therapists for personal growth
  • Concretize 2 personal goals
  • Concretize 2 professional goals
  • Attend sacred service in at least 1 other setting
  • Host a Shabbat dinner at our home to help me feel more comfortable in the city
  • Eat in/go to 2-3 neighborhoods to explore the city personally

90 Days

  • Set weekly time for therapist or continue searching
  • Begin to enact goals
  • Continue meeting with Senior Rabbi
  • Meet with 2-3 other community leaders for personal learning
  • Eat in/go to 2-3 other neighborhoods

 

Pastoral Work/Life cycle events

30 Days

  • Begin researching community helping professionals (Chaplain, LFT, LCSW, ED, AA, JFS)
  • Meet with Senior Rabbi to determine my role in Pastoral work
  • Get connected to method of tracking visits
  • Determine my involvement in lifecycle events

60 Days

  • Begin pastoral visits
  • Meet with caring committee (if none, understand history)
  • Track meetings (using my system or theirs)
  • Attend 2 major lifecycle events
  • Continue researching and compiling list of community resources

90 Days

  • Continue pastoral visits
  • Visit Jewish cemeteries and get to know cemetery staff
  • Perform lifecycle event
